Over the next 10 days, I’ll be sharing some ideas with you on ’10 Ways to Make a Difference’.
Each Day, one idea.
TWO: Give Just 1 Hour
Quite recently the J1H-movement was launched in our city.
It is inspiring.
They say J1H: ‘is a call to action to transform our city by giving JUST1HR every month. The energy we could generate, with 1 million people doing JUST1HR per month of voluntary service, adds up to 114 years per month.’
So I invite you: why not give 1 hour of your time to Elukholweni Farm School?
You can come teach computer classes.
Or train chess.
Or coach soccer.
Or help with the pre-schoolers.
Or do art classes.
Or music classes.
Or home economics.
Or maybe a ‘finishing-school’ project.
Maybe you could come teach maths or science.
The entire school have only two full time teachers.
Perhaps your 1 hour can help with feeding the kids.
Or maybe you’re a psychologist or councilor – imagine the difference you can make by giving 1 hour on a regular basis to counsel grade 6 & 7 pupils as they emerge into teenage-hood & look towards high school.
The only problem with giving 1 hour each month – soon you’ll fall in love with these kids & start giving an hour each week.
Maybe you were fortunate enough to do sport at school, or music, or finish high school, or earn a Diploma or Degree – I think if that is you, you’ve got something you can offer?
Imagine 160 of us doing a relay at Elukholweni.
We’ll add a value to the lives of these children from one day to the next.
And in the process you & I will become more.
As we make a difference.
As we give these children the edge they so desperately desire.
