Thoughts about ‘ 礼品之路’ or ‘The Way of the Gift’ have been & are brewing in my being, as we (my family & I) settle, for a while unknown, into life in Jiamusi, in the North of China.
The move. The new environment. The experience. And perhaps my reading as I study ‘happiness’, all contribute to these thoughts.
They are incomplete. They will be for a while. I share them nevertheless. Perhaps, as I write, the thoughts take shape & slowly become comprehensible.
The 1st post was simply titled: 礼品之路
The second post was titled: 礼品之路 – The Gift of Enough
Here are some more thoughts about that.
Happiness is a gift.
One we receive.
I believe, as we come to understand the Way of the Gift.
To ‘be enough’ or come to see that I ‘am enough’, without anything to prove or earn – this is quite something to digest.
Which takes time to embrace.
Or perhaps comprehensively.
And a little bit of revelation.
Enlightenment, if you will.
Which does not come from our ‘self’.
Nor from a conduit.
It comes from our Origin and I have no idea how or why or to whom (s)He gives it.
I know (s)He does.
Like a dawning.
As many are entangled in religion and aspiration, in materialism and disillusionment.
Robbed of life, happiness & the opportunity to be & become.
Perhaps the first bit of ‘enlightenment’ to hope for, as we find our way to the harbour of happiness, is the realization that our ‘being’, our existence, is not an accident, or the result of meaningless forces fortuitously conspiring to let some basic life form evovle and evolve, over millenia, into beings who can feel & think & hope.
Perhaps, without the enlightened realization that we have an Origin, who did not forsake our existence, there is no way to stumble onto happiness or even a glimpse of it.
It is exactly when it dawns in our being that our being is not per chance, that it is intentional, a gift from our Origin, that a route opens to a new Way.
In our Origin we are enough.
And we have enough.
For our Origin did not bring us into being, in order that (s)He may be a spectator of our demise.
Neither did (s)He bring us into being, so that we may be tools, conveniently stored in a cosmic toolbox, to be retrieved, at our Origin’s convenience, for some transcendental DIY-project of which we are oblivious, only to be discarded once we’ve served our usefulness, another tool taken in hand to screw an atom into place or fix a wormhole in the expanse of eternity.
Religion, humanism, evolution, most ideas of our time have a low view of our being.
To be of service in a global dance of production, wealth, power & accumulated opulence.
To be controlled.
With no other purpose than to serve.
Along ‘the way of the gift’ we discover that we are more.
Tenderly brought into being, not with a quick word.
With careful attention.
Not for a purpose of service.
With a hope.
And so (s)He showers us with love.
Measuring for each of us, more than just our need.
Constantly invited to Co-creation & collaboration.
Gifting each one of us with an abundance beyond our understanding & wants, so that I shall not want, but live.
Drenched in happiness.
The Way of the Gift – 礼品之路 – is paradoxical.
It believes, but is not religious.
It answers the hope of mankind, but not through medicine & money.
It embraces eternity, but not the young earth theories of evolution’s fatalism.
Yes, evolutionist-theory has the young earth view, for it denies eternity, which cannot be measured on our calendar.
It receives being from our Origin, but despises the harsh, modernist insistence of creationists.
It brings beautiful beings into the harbour of happiness, yet happiness is not its aspiration.
The ‘enough’, lovingly measured, as we live, intimately connected with the Origin of our being.
What is not given.
You are enough.
You have enough.
In (s)He who is.
This is 礼品之路.
