礼品之路 – The Gift of Doing Less

image

Along The Way of the Gift – 礼品之路 – everything is spiritual & everything is practical.

There  is no dualism.

This is not a Way along which we can live, arduously applying principles from outside, hoping an application will bring some result.

In Spirit or matter.

This is a Way we come to know, gradually,  every day a little more.

It is a Way which unfolds.

The Gift of the Way, a gift in itself.

Lived.

Along this Way, we enjoy The Gift of Doing Less.

In my world, the Western World, the one I grew up in, doing was the way to solve things.

Spiritual & Material.

The world I grew up in wasn’t just Western, it was structured by Evangelical-Reformed Religion as well.

It taught me the value of hard work.

And even though I willingly receive The Gift of Doing Less, I still value hard work.

I just do no not see it as my saviour.

Any more.

In any sense.

Have you heard the phrase, ‘a work of faith’?

That phrase comes from the world I grew up in.

In that world ‘faith’ itself is a work.

A work of claiming.

Salvation.

Claiming Divine riches.

Blessing.

Along ‘Lǐpǐn zhī lù’ ( 礼品之路 ), The Way of the Gift, I am learning again that faith is not a work, it is a gift.

Received.

Not as tool, or instrument to grab or take anything with.

But a gift which enables.

To see.

What already is.

Or Who already is & was & will be.

Taking is violent.

Always.

Receiving is peaceful.

We think we need to grab, while all along we’ve inherited, already gaining, everything.

Perhaps you’ve heard the phrase, ‘works of gratitude’?

More work.

Devised by people who only know transaction.

Trade.

Our Origin is not an idol who desperately needs to be appeased.

Our Origin is the Gift.

(s)He is the Source, Who once said, as (s)He came into our world, “you are not servants, but children.”

Children enjoy the benefits of Another’s work.

And so I enjoy the Gift of Doing Less.

In everything.

Receiving, rather than working out.

And not becoming fat & lazy along the way, for the Gift is complete.

Becoming more.

Complete.

Redeemed & atoned.

As the Sourceror is the Source.

Love, Happiness & Peace overwhelming me, not because I work to make it a reality, but because I tremblingly open my hands, letting the pick-axe fall to the ground, as I eagerly allow into them all the fruit we all long for with so much fervour.

The opening of my hands, itself a gift.

Being granted.

Again & again.

Patience, amicability & good-heartedness infesting my being, not because I strive or aspire, but because I inherit, unsolicited.

The inheritance given, in abundance.

Trustworthiness,  humility & freedom filling every inch of my existence, every day a little more, not because I labor, but because (s)He is the Gift.

Granting.

Completely.

Even my ‘work’, the stuff I do to earn an income, not so hard anymore.

Easy, even.

Infused with ‘new’ & ‘beautiful’, as well as enough.

Emptied of fear & stress.

And so I encourage you to explore Lǐpǐn zhī lù ( 礼品之路 ), The Way of the Gift.

Take a quiet moment.

Breathe.

Close your eyes.

Listen.

For the whisper.

Of (s)He who is.

Exhale ‘work’.

Inhale love.

Allowing your being to cry.

I want to receive.

From you.

Everything you have been giving, all along.

Allowing your heart to groan.

I want to inherit.

From you.

All you are.

Allowing your essence to roar.

Grant me the Gift.

Grant me you.

Grant me love & happiness & peace.

Bequeath in me patience, amicability & good-heartedness.

Plant in me trustworthiness,  humility & freedom.

And let it grow.

Let … it … grow.

And as you breahe, see the tree.

Standing on the banks of a quiet river.

The water pushing to its roots.

The sun’s glow warming it.

Sustenance coming from above & below.

Without effort.

And know, our Origin is.

The Source.

The Gift.

The Giver.

Of (s)himself.

In you too.

This knowing, this groaning & crying & roaring the Gift (s)He has been giving & has now given to you.

For this I passionately hope.

For you.

That you will receive the gift of abandoning ‘work’, the gift of ‘doing less’.
