礼品之路 ( Lǐpǐn zhī lù ) – The Gift of Being able to ‘Hear’ Dissonance

image

I used to play the Tuba.

For a while I even played in the South African Navy Band.

When you play in an orchestra,  the ability to hear dissonance is a gift.

Like most gifts, this gift is a curse as well.

For it is painful to admit inability.

When you are playing, it is a gift, it helps you to hear & correct, to play well, as you play along with others in what becomes a beautiful symphony.

In life it is a gift too.

And a curse.

As you live with greater peace, ‘hearing’ the dissonance in your own soul, your own desires and choices and emotions, gracefully moving away from the cacophony of what life could be, to something exquisite & kind.

A place where who you are and what you believe and how you live find exquisite harmony.

This is a good place to be.

It is a place of being at peace.

And peace is vital to happiness.

Peace and love is the frame of happiness.

To get to the peace, I need to hear the dissonance.

Acknowledge it.

Which isn’t pleasant.

For any of us.

But it remains a gift.

As, on the other side of hearing the dissonance, is new harmony and deeper happiness.

A very long time ago a shepherd, who became a rebel who plundered Temples, before becoming a King who killed for love, put it this way: search me, o Lord, search me and show me the injustices in my heart.

He was unwrapping this gift, of being able to hear the dissonance in his being.

And this I do too.

And as I receive this gift, alongside it I receive the gift of happiness,  for our Origin is the Gift, in Whom we live.

And so I encourage you to be brave, unwrapping this gift as well, for in unwrapping it you will receive much more than peace.
